More questions? Elementary FAQs!

Do you offer elementary Montessori? What ages?

Yes... I am now offering an elementary program recommended for six to nine year olds

What subjects, lessons will be offered?

  • In a nutshell: language including grammar and journaling, math including fractions and geometry, history, telling time, cosmic education, geography and the physical sciences, zoology, botany, science, and peace education.
  • The average lesson is one to three pages long... some of them have graphics (and you can request a graphic/more graphics) and some are text only.
  • Creationism: If you are a homeschooler who teaches Creationism, instead of evolution, I offer Creationist - friendly resources!
Does the cost include help from you? can you answer my questions and or offer help through email?

Yes, the elementary program also includes optional e-mail consulting with me!

I already have the Montessori elementary albums [lessons and activities], can I just pay for consulting with you?

Yes, starting February 12,  2010 you can now sign up for consulting only (with access to my time lines, picture galleries, resource links, and more). Go here.

When do I get my membership e-mail from you? And how do I access my lessons?

Do I have access to the site [after I sign up] where I can download everything when I feel like it...
  • Yes, you have 24/7 access to the site (your program/s) for one year!
As for the images, are they images I can use for the lesson, or only photographs of your projects?
  • Yes, they are images you can use for your lessons, some are photographs.
  • Some images that come with the lessons are black and white drawings from my Montessori training manual, or are color drawings (made by me) from my Montessori teacher albums, or are computer graphics (made by me with my computer), or are photographs of actual materials...

Can I purchase activities by subject, from other elementary programs, like physics and botany, after I sign up? What is the cost? Does it require purchasing of any materials, or making them (and do you provide help or info on that)? I’ve made some, and have a long list of more to make (but it’s slow).

Yes, you would need to either buy or make the materials needed for your lessons, or use non-Montessori materials that are as close as possible to the real thing; and yes, I help with that both in the lessons, in your members' only resources area, and through our correspondence.

Also, do you have any experience in trying to transition from a classroom to a homeschooling environment?

Yes, and you used the perfect word, transition! I have a lot of tips for that, including working with siblings!

Do you advise on the suggested equipment [materials] upfront?

I advise making and or buying the materials as you go along, and many can be bought as PDF materials that you print out, if you have a color printer. This will also save on shipping, and time in making your own. Many ebay sellers offer Montessori 6-9 in PDF. I have them listed in the members only resources area. You can also buy "classroom sets."

Do the children choose the lessons themselves?

After you create a Montessori style environment, yes, your children can choose what they want to work on; at the same time, you would choose one or two materials a day to give them a lesson on. For elementary, you do it by one subject per day--it is different than preschool...

Or is there a set schedule of sorts for their lessons?

No, you decide when you give a new lesson; but you can also give a group lesson at circle time, or do planting time outside, or a movement time. I do offer a suggested time line for when to present the activities.

Is there a traditional 3-hour work period?

You can do this if you want, some do a 90 minute work time twice a day.

I am trying to find some resources for upper elementary homeschooling, most specifically some lesson plans and curriculum guides.... can you point me in the right direction?

Yes! Try the following websites for Montessori albums for 9 to 12 year olds:

Best,

Lisa Nolan (MEARTH)
